Michael Tompkins

A talented veteran of luxury hospitality, Michael Tompkins is CEO of Miraval Resorts. He has held the role of General Manager of Miraval Arizona since 2007 and was President of Miraval Resorts since 2010 Prior to Miraval, Tompkins most recently was Vice President of Hotel and Spa Operations at Turning Stone Resort and Casino in New York. He previously was the Health and Healing Director at Canyon Ranch in the Berkshires and later became the Associate Managing Director. In his current position as CEO his work is multifold, from the oversight of all general resort operations to the creation of Miraval programs and all aspects of the Miraval brand and brand growth extensions which now includes Miraval at Natirar, slated to be the premier brand's first East coast destination resort.

Tompkins began his career in the wellness industry as a Registered Nurse and later earned his Massage Therapy certification. He favors a hands-on management style and has high visibility with both guests and staff. He believes personal touch and authenticity are the cornerstones of the hospitality and spa industries.

At Miraval his work has included the creation of the Andrew Weil, M.D. Integrated Wellness Center, forming a strategic partnership with National Geographic Expeditions and the completion of The Villas at Miraval, one of the fastest selling luxury lifestyle real estate projects in the country. In May of 2012 Miraval opened their new Life in Balance Spa with Clarins garnering dozens of awards and international acclaim.

His leadership skills were documented in 2013 in the business novel "Nice Companies Finish First" by marketing guru Peter Shankman and also in 2011 in the novel "Kensho: A Modern Awakening, Instigating Change in an Era of Global Renewal" by Susan Steinbrecker. He has received book acknowledgements in six business leadership/wellness novels. Tompkins is a contributing author to "Mindful Eating/Miraval" (2012) and "Mindful Living/Miraval"(2013) by Hay House Publishing. His first personal novel "Loves, Lives, & Lattes"(2013) is available on all major e-commerce book sites.

Tompkins has spoken extensively around the world as a spa and wellness expert having appeared on a variety of news, television, and broadcast programs including the Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg, New York Times, FOX News Live, Giuliana & Bill reality show, and hundreds of magazines and newspapers. He has spoken at Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Cornell University and for ISPA, NYSPA, WSPA, and SpaFinder Wellness. He is a keynote speaker at all of the Esthetique Spa International shows in 2013 and 2012.

He was a founding member of the New York Spa Promotion Alliance and served as a board member for three years. In 2007, he was awarded the New York State Hospitality Association's Executive of the Year. Tompkins currently is Vice Chairman of the International Spa Association (ISPA) board. He is also a member of the University of Arizona/Biosphere 2 board.
